4th Grade

Reading/ELA: In 4th grade, we expand upon previously taught skills such as similes/metaphors, main idea/supporting details, sequencing, cause and effect, author's purpose, making inferences/drawing conclusions, grammar, comparing and contrasting, fact and opinion, as well as character traits.  Students work on increasing their reading stamina and choosing more complex books/novels and improving our comprehension skills. 

 

Math: In 4th grade, we expand upon previously taught skills such as place value, rounding, measurement and data, money, and multiplication. Students are introduced to more complex multiplication and division skills, fractions, percentages/decimals, and pre-algebra skills. 

 

Science: Students discover all about force and motion, energy transfers and usage, Earth and its changing features, as well as the structures and functions of living things. Students participate in multiple hands-on inquiries as well as simulations and research. At the end of each module/set of lessons, students complete a major STEM project. 

 

Social Studies: Students learn all about Wisconsin's geography, its first people, economics and industries, different time periods such as the Civil and Revolutionary War and how it affected Wisconsin/brought about change, immigration/settlement, and overall what makes Wisconsin such a great state! 

 

Religion: Students continue learning about showing God's love and being Jesus' disciples. Students study the Works of Mercy, Beatitudes, 10 Commandments, and the saints. Students learn about the liturgical and church calendar. Students write monthly "Prayer Partner" letters. 

 

Writing: Students build upon and expand previously taught skills in the conventions of writing and demonstrating proper mechanics. In 4th grade, we focus on personal narratives, persuasive writing, compare and contrast writing, poems, as well as research.
